Dash cam apps and cloud platforms compared
Compare how major dash-cam ecosystems handle local transfer, remote viewing, cloud storage, location features and fleet oversight. Compatibility varies by camera model, connectivity and subscription.

Choose the ecosystem before the hardware
A feature appearing in an app does not mean every camera supports it. Check the exact model, required hotspot or LTE connection and subscription before purchasing.
| Platform | Local phone transfer | Remote live view | Cloud storage | Location / geofence | Fleet tools | Verification |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BlackVue App / FLEETA | Available on compatible cameras | Yes, with compatible cloud connection | Cloud plans available | GPS tracking and geofencing on supported plans | Dedicated fleet features | Manufacturer-reported |
| Thinkware Connected | Available on compatible cameras | Remote Live View on supported models | Impact uploads and connected services vary by model | Vehicle location, history and geofencing | Multi-vehicle monitoring; verify fleet fit | Manufacturer-reported |
| Garmin Drive / Vault | Wireless app access on compatible cameras | Remote access is model-dependent; Dash Cam Live supports LTE | Vault storage with eligibility and plan differences | Location features depend on model and connection | Primarily consumer-focused | Manufacturer-reported |
| VIOFO App | Local Wi-Fi access on compatible models | No universal always-connected service assumed | Verify by exact model; do not assume cloud storage | GPS data may be recorded, but remote tracking is not assumed | No fleet capability claimed here | Documentation review pending Conservative entries until exact-model documentation is cataloged. |
Four questions that prevent an expensive mismatch
How does the camera reach the internet?
Built-in LTE, an external LTE module, a vehicle hotspot and home Wi-Fi provide very different remote behavior.
Which files reach the cloud?
Some systems upload only saved or impact events. Others support remote playback, live view or longer archives under specific plans.
What works while parked?
Remote features can require parking-mode power, a compatible hardwire or battery system and a continuous data connection.
